What is the cheapest invoicing software for freelancers?
For a zero-subscription starting point, compare Wave Starter and Zoho Invoice. Moolamochi is not the cheapest option for sending an invoice: it is a paid client-work workspace and is currently waitlist-only.
Start with free options if invoicing is the whole job
Wave lists Starter at $0. Zoho Invoice lists a free subscription with usage limits. Check availability, payment methods and limits before choosing. Free software subscriptions can still have payment-processing charges; do not treat a zero subscription as a zero-cost business workflow.
Compare the ongoing bill, not just a starting price
FreshBooks’ 2026 notice lists Lite at $23/month before promotions. Bonsai lists Essentials at $25/user/month on monthly billing; its cheaper Basic tier does not list the same invoicing features. HoneyBook’s $29/month Starter figure is an annual-billing equivalent, not a month-to-month quote. Prices were reviewed on September 18, 2026 and can change.
Use this cost checklist
Compare the same billing period, currency, team size and required features. A lower headline price can still be the right choice; it just needs to cover your actual work.
- Write down the annual subscription commitment and renewal price.
- Add required seats and feature upgrades.
- Estimate card or bank-processing costs using your provider’s current quote.
- Include any separate tool you still need for approvals or project delivery.
- Check export options before moving your records.
When a paid client-work workspace is relevant
Moolamochi Solo is $49 monthly or $490 billed yearly, with no Moolamochi invoice percentage fee; actual processor fees remain separate. Consider it for linked scope, delivery and billing rather than as a free invoice generator. Production currently accepts waitlist signups only.
