Open the draft you want to change
Open Invoices, select a draft, then choose Edit draft in its quick actions. Check the client, project and currency first. Issued invoices have no money-editing action; use a linked supplement or credit instead.
Edit the service rows in familiar amounts
Change descriptions, quantities and rates directly in the compact line items. Enter a rate such as 100.00 for $100, not 10000 cents. Add or remove draft rows as needed, then review the calculated total.
Review Auto-adjust hours before saving
The recording toggles the visible Auto-adjust hours checkbox beside the draft total. In your workspace, choose the draft-hour setting, expand any needed Tax and scope, Payment schedule or Terms and invoice settings options, then choose Save draft changes. Only approved planned work can align draft hourly lines; proposed changes and issued money are not edited. Saving does not send, issue or generate work.
Review issuance as a separate decision
The recording checks the issuance review and shows Issue invoice becoming available, but does not submit it. In production, an Owner, Admin or Finance user checks recipient details, due date, terms and the saved total before explicitly issuing. Required signatures and out-of-sync scope must be resolved first. A failed PDF or email job is not permission to issue twice.
What changes when you finish
The saved draft remains editable until it is issued. Issuance freezes the financial document; payment and delivery still have their own states.
Start with Edit draft
Open Invoices, select a draft and choose Edit draft in its quick actions. Review the client in Bill to, the project and currency, then edit Description, Hours or Quantity, and Hourly rate or Unit price in Line items. Currency inputs use familiar amounts: 100.00 means $100, not 10000 cents. Issued money has no edit action. Owner, Admin and Finance may edit permitted drafts; assigned project leads may prepare drafts but do not gain issuance authority.
Choose records and options
Choice lists open over the form without pushing other fields down. Use the Up and Down arrow keys to move through options, Enter to select, or Escape to close without changing the selection. In searchable record fields, typing narrows the authorized choices but does not replace the selected record until you choose a result. Load more choices and Retry choices stay inside the list when available.
Review the visible Auto-adjust hours setting
Auto-adjust hours is visible at the top of the draft editor, outside Terms and invoice settings. It keeps draft hourly lines aligned with approved planned work and is saved with the draft. Proposed changes do not apply until approved. On an issued invoice, the disabled Auto-adjust hours checkbox shows its Saved setting only: the issued hours and amount remain fixed.
If Approved scope needs review appears, review the approved work, check the confirmation and choose Apply approved hourly scope. An unresolved mismatch blocks issuance; it is not permission to change the issued original.
Save is not issue
Expand Tax and scope on a line, Payment schedule, or Terms and invoice settings only when needed. Choose Save draft changes to preserve an editable document without sending it, issuing it or generating tasks. The live Draft total reflects unsaved edits; the Document PDF uses the last saved draft, so save before reviewing the PDF.
Make the issue decision explicitly
Owner, Admin or Finance chooses Review and issue, checks the saved recipient, dates, terms, total and required signatures, then checks the issuance confirmation before Issue invoice becomes available. Required signatures and unresolved scope mismatches block issue. After issuance, use dated amendments or linked supplements and credits rather than editing financial history. A queued PDF or email is not proof of delivery. Use Invoice history and View all for actual recorded invoice events, not an inferred payment or delivery timeline.
